Long wire cable drops mounted on tripods have appeared across Manning’s experimental live sound performances. Pendulum like swings of the cables collide with household objects to play these experimental instruments. In this gallery interpretation, wire drops are mounted with small computer fans to propel the movement to LED lights along the floor. These moving components hit up against an assortment of objects on the ground—from a glass fishbowl and broken pipes to bamboo pieces. In this peculiar dance the light’s anchored swings trace the perimeter of the objects on the floor. As contact is made the sound amplified—revealing each material’s quality as a resonating chamber. As each instrument activates the work builds an unrepeatable audio and visual performance.
