wave opus I & II
Modified clock chimes, DC motors, hook up wire, motion detector
Wave Opus is a series of sound sculptures intended for both live performance and self-play. Manning’s work often deconstructs and exposes the mechanisms of rudimentary technologies, and this work employs modified clock chimes. When viewers approach, the work is activated, motors spin the string striking the chimes, and with each encounter a new chance composition is created. The work both creates and visualises sound waves, with the noise of the chimes and the form of the spinning rope.
