Spectra

Coloured Fluorescent tubes, oscillating fans, wires, wood, cables.

Spectra (2012–2017) is a series of hanging sculptures that combines the kinetic forces of household fans to create interactions between coloured fluorescent tubes. Fans oscillate to propel the rotation of each beam and fluorescent tube. Each cadenced swing of the sculpture generates unique tonal mixes—enveloping the space in washes of colour, light, and shadow to build an evolving sensorial environment. This additive colour process is similar to the colour mixing processes of RGB (red, green, blue) or CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key). Though the materials remain consistent, each work in the Spectra series is different: the colours, scale, number of beams, and the way that they balance are all unique.
