Modified LED tv, light box, mirror

Open Corner references virtual space through the visual augmentation of physical space. Two light boxes with multiple ‘diffuser sheets’ mounted on-top and two mirrors are installed in a corner—the reflections and projections of light create an illusion of ongoing infinite space. The ‘diffuser sheets’, are sourced from discarded LCD screens are an optical material primarily used to homogenise and scatter light. These finely perforated sheets are one of the many layers in LCD screens that are used in unison to generate digital imagery. The overlays of perforation and subtle undulations of this material create a moiré effect; a visual phenomenon that occurs when two repetitive patterns overlap to create a new pattern. This analogue material re-construction of a digital screen exists purely as the proposal of an LCD screen. Open Corner underscores the strange physicality of digital imagery while creating the visual proposition of virtual space. Evolving in real-time as the viewer moves around the work, ‘Open Corner’ is an optical illusion that exists between digital and physical space
