bricks and blocks
LCD TV, colour reversing camera, flurosecent lights, mirror, aliminium
Manning has produced a number of works that rely on a simple feedback loop using a camera, mirror, and television monitor. Bricks and Blocks intakes and remixes the visual stimuli in the artworks range; the light emitted by the two fluorescent tubes, the mirror that reflects the monitor, gallery lighting, and surrounding space. This image is immediately captured and broadcasted on the monitor. This feedback loop infinitely repeats the imagery and in turn creates some order out of the visual chaos. The strong white lines of the fluorescent tubes construct a formalist grid. No two installations Bricks and Blocks are the same—with each staging the light reverberations and surrounding stimuli generate a unique image and visual environment.
